About
Quiet and creative, Gillian is a Canadian artist who's work is a mixture of pop culture homage and strange, moody combinations of animals, architecture, people and plants. Combining Folk Art and Realism, the result is her odd, yet charming compositions which emphasize detail and decoration while having a shallow depth of field and lots of negative space. The original pieces are created with watercolour paint and various drawing media, occasionally finished digitally.
Gillian has been the illustrator for several children's books as well as the cover artist for a variety of Y/A novels. She's had the fortune of being the illustrator for Canadian award-winning books I Am Not A Number and The Magician of Auschwitz (Second Story Press) as well as A Boy Asked The Wind (Red Deer Press). Her latest picture book in collaboration with author Nhung Tran Davies called Green Papayas (Red Deer Press) was a finalist for the 2024 TD Canadian Literature Award, one of Canada's largest literary prizes. https://bookcentre.ca/td-canadian-childrens-literature-award
